Summary: Precious Williams is an author and journalist. Her first book is a memoir called "Precious" (titled "Color Blind" in the US) - published by Bloomsbury in the UK, US and Germany in August 2010 "Precious" is a true story about growing up black in a white family. USA Today called it "a startlingly powerful memoir that upends every expectation about race, class, gender and ambition." Precious's story has been featured on Sky News and BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour and in the Daily Telegraph, Grazia & the Guardian. Her memoir was also serialized in The Times and a German translation of the book, titled "Farbenblind", was published in October 2010. Born in the UK, Precious is of Sierra Leonean and Nigerian descent. She studied English Language & Literature at Oxford University and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Periodical Journalism from the London College of Printing. Precious began her journalism career in 1998 and since then she has worked as a feature writer at the Independent on Sunday and as a Contributing Editor at Elle & Cosmopolitan as well as spending two years as a New York-based Contributing Editor for the Mail on Sunday's 'Night & Day' magazine. Precious's work has also been published in the Sunday Times Magazine, the Daily Telegraph, the Guardian, the Financial Times, Glamour, the New York Post, Marie Claire, Vogue & Wallpaper. Her journalism focuses on health and lifestyle features, first-person essays and celebrity interviews. Notable interviewees include Yoko Ono, Nina Simone - and Ali G. Precious has given lectures on creative writing, cultural identity and overcoming adversity at universities and schools throughout the UK and US.
