This site was started in 1994 by Douglas Berger.
Doug comes from a background of the Securities Industry working with firms, such as Dean Witter, Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns to mention a few.
It was through this association and watching the majority of businesses that succeeded was because of strong vision at the management level. This helped him recognize the potential of the Internet and what it could do for the large and small businesses that were serious about offering services to their clients. With that vision, and confidence he created 411 Locate.com to provide Yellow Page, White Page, Public Records lookups through associations with some of the strongest content providers he could find.
Is 411 Locate.com a large publicly traded Company? No, and it probably will always remain privately owned and operated. This will offer quick decisions and competitive services that comes from being of single mind responding to the quests that use the services of 411 Locate.com.
The site generates it’s revenue source from these content providers, and they in turn monitize the traffic through advertising relationships, and currently much of their revenue is paid by the click. So while on the site(s) be sure to visit the sponsors that help pay for these services so they can profit.
As mentioned the idea behind 411 Locate.com started in 1994, and launched early 1995. During the growth periods there have been long stretches of very little revenue to pay for keeping the site operating. The site(s) began realizing some good revenue in 2000 just in time to watch it fall sharply in the fall of the same year.
Most of 2001 was finding new ways to generate revenue, and rather than the traffic being of benefit to 411 Locate.com it actually hurt. The heavy traffic cost more from the hosting Companies while the revenue coming in had dropped sharply.
The solution was to hang on and find new ways to generate revenue rather than hope for the old methods return.
Douglas still operates the site, and continues to find new ways to provide the best service the Web can provide. He does not look at other sites as competitors, but as allies with a common mission.
Nearly all of the technical graphic work is handled by third party contract sources. This enables Douglas to find the best in a certain field, and turn out the quality that his customers are accustomed.
411 Locate.com is looking to expand it network and provide content to other sites. As long as there is a mutual benefit for both.
